About The Shack

Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, ostensibly from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment, Mack arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever and quite possibly your own.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, “Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?” The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!

I have heard a lot about this book. It has indeed split the Christian society, I think while some of the criticisms are spot on, you need to remember that this is:
    1) a fiction book
    2) like the screwtape letters from CS Lewis a “what if” book
    3) again like the screwtape letters, was created for his family as he like CS had a family loss.

I am reading it , and going to a book club on the Shack. I have read the comments on some sites. I think they R going over board with it. Its fiction, another way of looking at things. People need to lighten up.
God can’t be placed in a BOX. He is God ALmighty. No one knows what he looks like, I don’t really care. But he has all those traits. Loving understanding ect. IN the writers mind maybe that how he pictured it.
SO, what. He is using his imagination and creativity god gave him. He wrote the book for his kids. We are blessed to read it. Some Chritians need to Take a lighten up Pill. Stop taking things so Serious.

I’ve been a follower of Christ for 17 years and have studied the Bible in depth. I just read this book last night and it’s had a very positive affect on how I percieve God’s love for us. While Mack is eating supper with the trinity, Jesus tells Mack that he would have died on the cross even if it were just for him. This made it very personal for me and I know Jesus would say exactly that though I wouldn’t be able to accept it. In furhter meditation on this book I’ve come to the conclusion that it all starts with love - obedience to God is born out of love only. And that love is developed through a relationship. I’ve read a few of the critics and they’re not ready for this book yet. I know scripture very well and the point of this book is God’s love for us even when we feel hurt by Him and reject Him. Those who criticize the book are too legalistic and I would categorize them with what I call the modern-day Pharisees. I highly recommend this book. The author had to have had some extraordinary epiphanies to write this and it’s absolutley relatable and relevant. I especially recommend it to those who percieve God as the punishing autoritarian type father figure. It will heal you.
